One fish says to the other, "Do you know how to drive this thing?"
Having a fish tank is incredibly therapeutic, and that is probably why my dentist has one in the waiting room. Like any pet, there is a lot of work when caring for fish, so what if there was an alternative?
I open-sourced my pixel-art aquarium for the Pico 2w based Pimoroni Interstate 75 W 🐠

NickyMoo's pixel-art aquarium gives us the calming effect of fish, without the need for regular filter changes or feeding them. The aquarium uses Interstate 75 W across a 128 x 64 HUB 75 RGB LED matrix panel.
RGB LED Matrix Panel
Bring a little bit of Times Square into your home with these sweet RGB LED matrix panels.
The scene has fish, jellyfish, animated plants, treasure chest and a submarine. We reckon it needs MOAR PIRATES!
Running locally, there is no Internet connection required. Pressing A/B will summon a submarine (Red October?) and you can switch daylight modes and set the clock. NickyMoo's personal version automatically sets the clock based on Wi-Fi and their location.

Although the aquarium is designed for Interstate 75 W, you can also use it in an emulator right on your desktop. Here it is running on my Ubuntu 26.04.1 PC, and we can see controls to summon the submarine, feed the fishes, and toggle the time of day.
Full details on how to setup your own Interstate 75 W aquarium, and to install the emulator can be found on NickyMoo's GitHub page.
